PRESS RELEASE
AMERICA SHARE WINS GRAND LITTLEFORD AWARD
NEW YORK, July 25, 2005--The HIV/AIDS pandemic devastating Africa has left countless children alone and vulnerable, orphaned by a generation of parents fallen victim to disease. In an effort to assist these often forgotten children, Micato Safaris, a family-run operator of luxury tours specializing in African Safaris, has created America Share, a non-profit foundation to assist in the education and housing of young Kenyans. For its noble work, America Share—nominated by Northstar’s Travel Weekly magazine—has been selected as the recipient of the 2005 Grand Littleford Award for Corporate Community Service, accompanied by a $3,000 donation from ABM to the winner's charity of choice.
The four other 2005 Littleford Award winners, who each receive $500 towards their chosen causes, are:
• Women in P-O-P Benefit to Fight Breast Cancer, nominated by P-O-P Times, for their annual in-store marketing industry event benefiting the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations and the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization.
• Luck Stone Corporation, nominated by Aggregates Manager, for its educational program to help children learn about the aggregates industry and to pique their interest in geology.
• Intel Corporation, nominated by PC Magazine, for its Science Talent Search program introducing promising young scientists and inventions while providing individual student scholarships and school financial support.
• eWeek, nominated by eWeek magazine, for its Excellence Awards program supporting organizations that use technology to serve our nation’s youth while ensuring technology access for all.
The William D. Littleford Awards for Corporate Community Service were named after and established by the chairman emeritus of BPI Communications Inc. to recognize companies, organizations or individuals that are involved in active community service programs aimed at alleviating critical social problems. This year's Littleford Award celebration will be held August 16 at the Four Seasons, 99 East 52nd Street, New York 10022. Cocktails begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Pool Room, and the luncheon ceremony begins at noon in the Pool Room Terrace. For more information, contact Miriam Tomaselli at ABM, or register here.
