PRESS RELEASE

SUMMIT TO EXPLORE BtoB MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES IN "NEW EUROPE"

(CRACOW, Poland) – The best minds and most creative practitioners of BtoB media in New Europe will headline the New Europe Business Media Summit.

To be held Sept. 29–30, 2004 in Cracow, Poland, the Summit will explore the state of business-to-business media and the companies which are leading the transformation of business media in the new member countries of the EU, while surveying further opportunities in the additional Eastern markets which are now at the border of the European constellation, said Kehrt Reyher, CEO of the Modern Media Institute (MMI), which is the organizer of the event.

“Most industries, from banking to media to heavy industry, are underserved with news and under-exploited for commercial opportunities in this part of the world,” said Reyher. He said MMI defines “New Europe” as made up of countries which are new to the EU, and those of the former Soviet Union.

Confirmed speakers (list below) for the Summit bring of decades of experience in these markets, Reyher said.

Michal Broniatowski, Managing Partner at MediaDim, a Kiev-based media company, and a former Reuters executive in Warsaw and Moscow, is keynote speaker for the event. He’ll give an overview of the New Europe economic landscape.

The Summit is designed as a platform for knowledge exchange and matchmaking among Western business media owners and the myriad of business publishers across the New Europe region, Reyher said. As such it aims to attract Western business publishers, venture capitalists, policymakers, media entrepreneurs, consultants and others interested in the opportunities which the region presents.

Martha M. Steffens, of the University of Missouri, currently serving as a visiting professor at Moscow State University, will talk on business journalism ethics and lead a panel discussion on that topic. Other sessions will explore such topics as “angel investors,” content licensing, and the role which the internet can play in early-level startups.

The Modern Media Institute is an education and training center based in Poland.
