IEEE Spectrum adds to its laurels

May 10, 2012 - The magazine of the professional association for the advancement of technology has won a 2012 National Magazine Award for excellence, specifically in the “General Excellence Among Thought Leader Magazines” category, honoring small-circulation publications in the general-interest, literary, scholarly and professional categories.

This year, almost 270 publications submitted more than 1,800 entries. Spectrum was selected over four other nominees in its category – The American Scholar, Aperture, The New Republic and Virginia Quarterly Review.  The National Magazine Awards are sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors in association with the Columbia University School of Journalism.

IEEE Spectrum has been honored with other accolades recently: it was nominated for five 2012 Jesse H. Neal Awards and honored with two, for Best News Coverage for a report on the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, and Best Blog, for its Automaton blog; and it picked up five Association Media and Publishing (formerly SNAP) nominations, taking home one gold (for the issue on "Re-engineering Afghanistan"), one silver and three bronze awards.
