"Rich Data" as defined by the Rich Data Council
Rich Data consists of public and proprietary information gathered and linked in order to create valuable business intelligence which can be sold to customers for analytical, business development and operational purposes. Ideally, Rich Data becomes an integral part of a customer’s workflow and improves their businesses. Rich Data affords business media companies incremental revenue opportunities and the potential for a valuable competitive edge in the industries which they serve.
Mission Statement
- To define Rich Data and assist ABM members in developing Rich Data products.
- To identify leading Rich Data providers and give ABM members examples of successful business strategies and Best Practices within this field.
- To provide training for Rich Data business managers and staff in successful database management, data sales, pricing, vendor management and related skills. And to ensure that ABM members better understand technological innovation and its impact on the delivery and use of business information.
- To help make ABM more important and more relevant for pure-play Rich Data/Business Information companies.

Projects: The council developed the structure and content for the June 15, 2006 "Rich Data Summit: Putting Rich data to Work for You." This full-day event is the latest in a series of initiatives and events, including three focus groups and two Rich Data Summits, produced by the council to help ABM member companies explore rich data opportunities and better understand and monetize fee-based business intelligence and proprietary high-value content to increase revenue.
The council produced a second edition of the highly successful "The Rich Data Opportunity: B-to-B Media's Brave New Frontier" originally published in 2004. An updated version of "The Rich Data Commitment" will be released in conjunction with the June 15 event and serve as a platform for future rich data events and initiatives.
New member recruitment efforts in the coming year will target member from ABM member companies involved with rich data from entry to advanced levels, as well as members of trade show/conference producers who are seeking to become involved in the rich data space.
