The William D. Littleford Awards for Corporate Community Service were named after and established by the chairman emeritus of BPI Communications Inc. The award recognizes companies, organizations or individuals that are involved in active community service programs aimed at alleviating critical social problems. Littleford established this award for a number of purposes: to raise the visibility of the business-to-business editorial product; to encourage increased coverage and recognition of community service success stories; and to motivate other organizations to apply such solutions in their own communities.

About William D. Littleford Bill Littleford spent his entire publishing career with BPI, which was founded in 1894 in Cincinnati by his grandfather. He joined the company in 1934 as a "printer's devil" but soon moved into other areas and familiarized himself with the circulation, financial, advertising and editorial aspects of business publishing. He was appointed general manager of his company in 1946, elected president in 1958, and chairman in 1976.
Under his leadership, the company grew from a single publication (Billboard) and a small printing plant in Cincinnati to a diversified communication organization headquartered in New York City. In 1951, Littleford led BPI into American Business Media, where he served as chairman from 1960 to 1961. Throughout his career, he worked on a variety of volunteer and charitable events and organizations. His work with the Advertising Council is well-known in the industry.
His active participation in the development of the Business Press Educational Foundation (BPEF) was instrumental to its success. His in-depth involvement with the Community Action Network has helped to establish an industry-wide recognition for public service.
