Littleford Awards at the 9th annual luncheon held today at the Union League Club. Each winner, nominated by an American Business Media member company, represents outstanding dedication to corporate community service. This year’s winner of the prestigious Grand Littleford Award for Community Service, accompanied by a $3,000 donation to the charity of its choice, is Price Chopper, nominated by Fairchild’s Supermarket News for its role in a broad range of community needs. By promoting employee volunteerism, Price Chopper goes beyond just writing checks and uses its people power to give back to the communities they serve. The upstate New York-based company has participated in local projects, including focusing on helping young people deal with health challenges, supporting a camp for critically ill children, both through fundraising and active involvement, as well as offering the use of its stores to become a training facility for students with developmental disabilities and autism.  Three additional Littleford Award winners also receive monetary donations toward their chosen causes. Those winners include:• 1st runner up The Butterfly Foundation (accompanied by a $1,000 donation), nominated by Orthopedic Technology Review, for its work in bringing state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment to underprivileged children of Third World nations suffering with complex spinal deformity.• 2nd runner up Travel Guard International (accompanied by a $750), nominated by Travel Weekly, for its service through the Make a Mark Foundation.• 3rd runner up Prudential Financial (accompanied by a $500 donation, nominated by Physician’s Money Digest for its ongoing dedication to the community in which they are based, Newark, New Jersey. The William D. Littleford Awards for Corporate Community Service were named after and established by the chairman emeritus of BPI Communications Inc. to recognize companies, organizations or individuals that are involved in active community service programs aimed at alleviating critical social problems. Littleford established this award for a number of purposes: to raise the visibility of the business-to-business editorial product; to encourage increased coverage and recognition of community service success stories; and to motivate other organizations to apply such solutions in their own communities.
